My work is derived from the conscious use of dreams, free association, spontaneous drawing, and personal therapeutic drives. I rarely make use of models or photographs, preferring to use my own pictorial impulses to explore my own brand of reality, using paint to map a private territory unchained from the expectations of the real world.

In my paintings, I try to maintain a balance between expression and restraint, speech and silence, safety and menace; while I paint, wholly imaginary forms become emblematic of my own struggle to keep a steady course between emotional states. I am beginning to view this as a process involving my entire body of work (instead of each individual painting); this has been leading to more spontaneous work, and a larger array of subjects and concerns, with a focus on enigmatic pictures which seem to be panels or snapshots removed from the context of a larger dream-narrative.

Superseding all these words is a visual language that is simply a joy to “speak.” I love to paint faces and monsters and odd goings-on, and in most ways the day-to-day work of painting is really just that simple.
